  • System-thinking. Your ideas are rooted to our platform even as you consider ideas and features that pull us in new directions
  • Focus. We’re a high-growth startup with a busy, remote team. You know how and when to engage or be heads down
  • Collaboration. You know how to inspire, play, and negotiate with opinionated PMs, engineers, and execs
  • Words and data. You write with clarity and conviction and use data to reinforce your points

Some of the things you’ll do:
  • Pitch, test, build and ship new features
  • Rethink our onboarding and core user flows
  • Refine our UX/UI patterns across iOS, Chrome, and desktop
  • Influence the product roadmap
  • Refine our process and help shape the design org
We offer:

  • The opportunity to make an impact in a transformative industry
  • A competitive salary, a collegiate atmosphere, and a commitment to building a great asynchronous culture

CompanyCam: Infrastructure Engineer

Headquarters: Lincoln, NE

URL: https://companycam.com

Hi, We’re CompanyCam

We create simple-to-use, visual-first communication and accountability tools for contractors. Imagine a B2B SaaS app that doesn’t look like garbage, built by a team of capable, laid back people

But don’t let the chill throw you off; we’re a fast-growing, product-led startup with big plans for the future.

The Role

We’re looking for a sharp, self-motivated, problem-solving infrastructure engineer to join our team.

Using your knowledge of infrastructure and devops technologies, you’ll work on our Platform Team to improve our logging, monitoring, and notifications systems, improve and automate our security infrastructure, improve our infrastructure and application deployment strategy; and create tools to enable reliable, fast, scalable, and secure work on our product teams.

And, perhaps most importantly, you’ll actively contribute to the evolution of the culture and processes of a growing engineering team.

Why CompanyCam?

Did you wake up this morning with a burning desire to create apps for contractors? No? I didn’t think so. I admit, it’s not something one thinks about without some prompting. But bear with me for a moment…

Contractors are everywhere. They build our homes, they literally put roofs over our heads, they wire up our electricity, give us access to the internet, fix our plumbing and AC, paint our homes…the list goes on.

At CompanyCam, you’ll work with intelligent, kind people to make contractors’ work easier. You’ll create time for them so they can get shit done and spend more of that time with their families. Sound corny? You’ll find that midwesterner ethos permeate our culture (we’re based in Lincoln, NE), so if you can’t hang with that, no hard feelings, but this probably isn’t the role for you.

Working At CompanyCam

Our Product and Engineering departments work together on basically two types of teams. Most teams focus on the product itself, while the platform team supports that work, and also works on larger and more fundamental systems and maintenance, infrastructure, and devops.

Product teams use Basecamp’s Shape Up method (fused with empowered product teams a la Marty Cagan’s Inspired) to organize and execute their work. That means they work in teams in 6-week cycles to implement product improvements. After each cycle, everyone enjoys a 1-2 week cool-down where they pursue educational opportunities, work on pet projects, or smash some bugs that have been nagging at them.

As an infrastructure engineer, you’ll work on our Platform Team and follow the same 6-week cycle + 1-2 week cool-down template.

Sounds nice, right? No sprinting, no scrumming, no death by 1,000 meetings. We protect our engineers’ time, treat them like adults, and trust them to get their work done. We’re also big on not overworking people. Put in your eight hours of focused, quality work and then TURN. SLACK. OFF. No nights and weekends.

Our larger company culture is also refreshingly chill. We have fun, learn from each other, and don’t take ourselves too seriously.

We cover the important stuff too. We pay well, offer unlimited vacation, meaningful equity, health insurance, and other benefits. If you’re local or down to move, we’re custom remodeling a new office space in the Lincoln Haymarket area that you’ll love. If you’re remote (most of the engineering team is), we’re well set up with great conference room video equipment so you’ll feel like you’re there with us, and once life is back to normal we’ll fly you in a few times a year to hang out.

What We Ask Of You

Must-haves
These are our non-negotiables:

  • Show up: have the courage to do difficult but necessary stuff.
  • Grow up: take responsibility, learn continuously, and have a growth mindset.
  • Do good: treat your co-workers and customers the way you want to be treated.
  • Experience with using Terraform to modularize and deploy infrastructure.
  • Experience deploying infrastructure to AWS via automation.
  • Experience working with Ubuntu systems and knowledge of SSH, SystemD, and Nginx.
  • Proficiency with EC2, RDS, API Gateway, and Lambda.
  • Experience working as a professional infrastructure engineer. (Sorry, we’re not hiring new devs at this time.)
  • Reside permanently and currently somewhere in the continental US. Alas, we’re not set up to hire outside of the US.

Nice-to-haves
While experience with the following technologies are not required (we’re cool with some on-the-job learning), it would be a plus:

  • Deploying Rails with Capistrano
  • Configuring servers for running Sidekiq workers
  • AWS Fargate
  • AWS Codebuild
  • MongoDB

This position can be U.S. Remote or in our Lincoln office. At least one year of remote experience is required if you plan on working remotely. We are not accepting applicants outside the U.S. at this time.

Better Reports: Data-savvy customer service representative – US Time Zone

Headquarters: Australia

URL: https://www.betterreports.com/

Hi there,

Are you looking to start 2021 on a high note?

Better Reports is looking for a data-savvy customer support agent to provide world-class support for our rapidly growing SaaS app.

About the company

Better Reports was founded in 2017.

We are a small team of highly effective individuals working across three continents.

Our product is a data analysis & reporting SaaS app, trusted by over 2,500 businesses.

We are on a mission to provide the best tool for analyzing data from popular apps and APIs.

Our app is currently available on the Shopify and Stripe platform, and we are working hard on expanding to other platforms (such as Quickbooks and Xero).

You can find out more about us here – https://www.betterreports.com and the current app for Shopify here: https://apps.shopify.com/betterreports

About the job

It is primarily a customer support role.

Most of your time will be spent reading and replying to email queries from customers through our helpdesk tool (HelpScout) along with live chat support to select customers.

Common customer queries include:
  • Requests to create custom reports and custom formulas
  • Helping merchants schedule and set up reports in Google Sheets
  • Investigating and explaining report results
  • Requests about features, capabilities, pricing, refunds and general interface questions

On a less frequent basis, you may be required to:
  • Write documentation about various features of the app
  • Record videos to demonstrate functionality of the app that helps answer specific customer questions
  • Jump on phone/video calls with larger customers to educate and walk through various features (this is rare)
The role offers opportunities for growth as the company grows as well.

Skills

We value highly effective individuals who are passionate about their work.

Required

  • Analytical reading
You’ll spend most of your time reading and replying to customer emails.

You must be able to read a customer’s email and figure out what they are asking, and not simply what they are saying.

  • Intelligible writing
Your written English needs to be excellent. Beside correct grammar and spelling, you must be a clear, concise and intelligible writer. This skill is fundamental, not only to reply to customers but also to contribute to our product documentation and to communicate internally.

  • Problem solving
You’ll frequently encounter requests for reports that haven’t come up before. You must be tenacious and consider all the different ways that you might be able to solve the problem and come up with an optimal solution.

  • Love for data and numbers
While you don’t need extensive experience with data tools (see next item), you must have an affinity for slicing and dicing data. If you’ve never written an Excel formula or have never heard of SQL, this role is not the right fit for you.

Nice to have

  • Proficient with data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, Tableau, PowerBI, Google DataStudio or other similar tools. If you are familiar with any of those tools, you’ll be able to use our app effectively in just a few days.
  • Experience with the industries of e-commerce / accounting / finance.

Most of our reports analyze orders, transactions, and other financial data. It would help if you were familiar with these domains.

  • Good at recording screen casts

Our current documentation is lacking video tutorials, and we need to record more of them. Not everyone is good at that.

Working remotely

  • The role requires you to be physically based in locations within (or close to) a US time zone.
  • You must be comfortable working from home (or other remote environment), have a dedicated workspace, fast and reliable internet access
  • You must be a self starter, proactive and be able to get things done with minimal supervision
  • You are expected to be available and online during working hours (we communicate via chat a lot)
  • You are expected to (over) communicate clearly and frequently, and send frequent emails about your progress, suggestions, issues, questions, etc…
  • Your writing skills will be put into practice daily to communicate internally and externally.
  • You will join our team as an independent contractor / sole proprietor and will be responsible for paying your own taxes.

What you can expect from us:

  • Personalized one-to-one on-boarding with team-members
  • A supportive team with a public-by-default communication culture
  • Flexible work schedule with regular check-ins to track your progress
  • Fair compensation depending on skill and location
  • 20 days of paid leave annually

We are looking forward to hearing from you!
